Selective Service Registration Policy Update
About
In the April 2024 Apprenticeship Connections newsletter, the Office of Apprenticeship (OA) shared clarifying details about OA-managed grants pertaining to selective service.
Q: Are OA grantees required to verify/inquire about Selective Service registration as a part of their eligibility process?
OA-managed grants are authorized under the National Apprenticeship Act, which does not require that a determination of Selective Service registration be made prior to enrollment, or in determining eligibility to participate in apprenticeship grants. Therefore, grant recipients of OA-managed grants (e.g., State Apprenticeship Expansion, Equity, and Innovation (SAEEI), State Apprenticeship Expansion Formula base and competitive, and Apprenticeship Building America grantees) are not required to verify Selective Service registration as part of their eligibility progress.
Please note that other employment and training programs, such as Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act-funded programs, may require Selective Service registration as part of program eligibility.
This policy is effective immediately.
